When she discovered Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Evelyn Gale became a perennial subscriber. Further inspired by Agatha Christie's stories, in 1993 Ms. Gale won third place in the Kathy Gibson Short Story Contest. She joined a local writers group, began taking College classes in writing fiction and successfully completed the Long Ridge Writers Group's "Breaking Into Print" program. After attending her first writer's conference Ms. Gale became a member of American Christian Writers and Christian Writers Fellowship International. She continually hones her writing expertise through attendance at workshops, readings, the local Free Lance Writers group and retreats in addition to membership in Sisters in Crime, Police Writers Association and several online writing groups. She meets weekly with her author mentor. Inspired by Mary Higgins Clark, Sara Paretsky, Beverly Lewis and especially Terri Blackstock, Evelyn Gale has written several poems, many short stories and is now working on longer fiction. Ms. Gale's short stories, articles and poetry have been published in Voices Out of Nowhere, The Beacon, and several newspapers. She knits twisted plots with fast moving dialog and low key romance into suspenseful mysteries. Her characters face spiritual and natural crises to learn a specific spiritual truth as the plot unravels. Ms. Gale's plots reflect her experience as legal secretary, bookkeeper, farm wife, owner/manager of a ceramics store and an interior finishing business, computer sales person and office manager. Fear is the first novella of a series. Ms. Gale is working on the next book and is putting together five plots at this time. Her series character, Rachel, will age with each succeeding book as she solves crimes and puzzles through ratiocination, much as Agatha Christie's Hercule Piorot or Miss Marple might. Rachel, a person complete in herself, will strike a balance between feminism and the weak damsel. In each book a particular spiritual truth will be learned and dealt with by one or more characters.
